For what seems like months I have been threatening to go thrifting. Many of my favorite fashion ideas come from bloggers who thrift on a regular basis and find amazing things. It has been YEARS since I visited thrift shops on a regular basis. For one thing, i think once you reach a certain age and economic level you just feel that you shouldn't have to anymore. Another is that to find gold in the thrift store takes a significant time commitment. And then there's that thrift store smell....
Well I finally made it out for a few hours on Sunday to the Village Thrift in Roscoe Village. It is a very well organized store which made it fairly easy to shop in. I spent $12.45 and left with 2 short-sleeve blouses (one vintage and one GAP) and a very unusual multi colored belt which appears to be real leather. But the deal of the century has got to be these scarves:
Every single one of these is 100% silk and in great shape with no marks. The prices ranged from $1.50-$.60!I gave them a quick bath in woolite, but I don't think that was enough for the vintage pink one which still smells strongly of mothballs. I am guessing I will just have to deal with it on that one!

Nice finds!!! To those of us who are uneducated about silk scarves, how much do they normally run? I'm happy to report that I've never bought one. :-)
Makes me want to hit a flea market or something.....
MR, I've thrifted moth-balled stuff before. Washing didn't help, but hanging it out somewhere with lots of air exposure for a few days or a week got rid of the smell.
Welcome back to the thrift world!
Thanks for the tip SRM!
joe- a silk scarf of these sizes can run anywhere from $100-$50 and up depending on the maker.
Yowza!!
I will sh*t myself if you start wearing scarves - RM is starting a trend! I prefer pashi's myself, but then it is always freaking cold here.
Nice try Lakeview...I've seen your collection of scarves in your house, right next to your casual pumps
