The NEW Bottom Lounge

Last night we played our second ever show at the Bottom Lounge's new location on lake street by Ashland.

I don't have particularly fond memories of the old Bottom Lounge location by the Belmont El stop. We played there a number of times. It was a big room, but not a lot of character.

The NEW Bottom Lounge is A-mazing. First of all, I've never been in a rock club that smelled so nice. (although i'm sure that won't last) The playing space itself is ginormous and is obviously meant for bands that, uh, can fill it. (Meaning: not us. not yet anyway.;) There is a very nice lounge area backstage with a private washroom and everything. In the front of the space is an equally large "dining"/sports bar area. With giant fan, huge warehouse ceilings and decent bar food with generous portions. The beer list is pretty excellent too- although don't expect any deals. (I did get my favorite beer ever- Hitachino Nest White Ale. mmmmmmmm)

But the REAL reason you should go is the upstairs. We didn't visit the Volcano room until very late in the evening. It is yet another large seating area with well stocked bar and it opens out onto a fabulous patio.

The picture doesn't really do it justice. There is a really fabulous skyline view. It's a place for those pesky smokers to smoke and on a cool August night it is absolutely the most amazing place to enjoy a beer.

The owners are obviously taking a real risk opening such a lux and large venue in a neighborhood that doesn't have much going on. But it has a lot going for it including a really friendly and helpful staff. So I'll be pulling for it! Check out their lineup they have some really solid bands coming through there. Or just go by some night for a cocktail on that patio. Maybe I'll join you!

I REALLY wanted to come see you last night, but 10:30 was going to be too late to be down there drinking. That neighborhood seems a bit sketchy to me, as you imply. I'll root for them too though!!

How was your show??
