Not a Hurricane but....
....still not fun.
Saturday Chicago got the most precipitation in one day than it has had in 70 years. Needless to say, I did not make it to the belly-dance festival but instead spent most of Saturday morning trying to get seeping water out of my basement. Luckily, we were able to use the sump-pump I had purchased (you may remember this adventure). By strategically placing it in the build up areas in our yard, we were able to prevent the water from pooling to the critical levels where it would start seeping into the house. Huzzoo! Hilariously enough, Husband's plan for Saturday was to epoxy cracks in the basement which also might have prevented the seepage. Ho! ho!
But we were very lucky. For this was the scene a mere 4 blocks north:
It is hard to believe that this is right by our house. Miss D. and I walked up to survey the water but I didn't think to take my own pics until we were too far away. So these are from the Tribune.

It has been a mess hasn't it? My plumber buddy went to work Saturday morning at 8 and didn't get home until 3:30 in the morning Sunday. Ugh. Not the day to be a plumber.....but a good day to own a plumbing company!!!
Glad you guys managed to get through high and dry.
I'm glad it wasn't as bad as it could have been...
those poor people!!! Hope their insurance (first, that they have it) doesn't give them too much hassle.
