Wow. Who knew a post about chickens would get so many comments?
Sadly I did a little investigating and realized the idea would cost more/be more work than I anticipated. (apparently they poop a lot- and require housing) As long as I work a day job it's probably a no. But who knows what the future will bring? Husband was also surprisingly resistant to the idea. I keep telling him we have to prepare for the coming Armageddon when we all run out of oil and resources, but he is not buying it so far.
Someone did leave a neat link in the comments to a site called www.greenparentchicago.com which looks really cool and I plan to check out a little more. Thanks Daniel!

I too could taste those fresh eggs - come on Hubs - get on the band wagon - but don't put the coop near where I walk in from the garage!
