Dad is in town, and for once he is actually staying with us for the whole trip. (Usually he spends most of the evenings at one of his business partner’s places) Last night, he wanted to take Husband and I out on the town for a nice meal. We settled on Province in the west loop.
It was a very pleasant meal. Pleasant ambiance, pleasant food, pleasant company. None of the dishes really stood out and wowed us but nothing was bad either. They have a neat twist on the small plate concept. There are 4 or 5 sections on the menu ranging from “bites” to “bigger” plates. Many of the “big” and “bigger” plates are also available in half portions so if you are with people who like to taste many things and like to share there are a lot of options. The waitress stated that we could start listing what we wanted, she would let us know if we were getting too much food and also determine how to course it out for us. This was really helpful because there were a lot of things we wanted to try!
The couple of things that had been well-reviewed that I wanted to try, including a smoked sable ceviche and a melted blue cheese appetizer turned out to be disappointing after the build up. (not bad, just sort of meh)
My favorite thing of the night was probably the non-alcoholic cocktail that the bartender made me before the meal. Pomegranate juice, lime and ginger beer. Delicious! Refreshing and not cloying in the least. Will definitely be trying to recreate it at home!

I'm just impressed that you have the stomach to eat out. I remember having a hard time with smells - even good ones. Lisa
That sounds like a great drink - what do they call them, mocktails? I think the key is to make sure it's not too sweet - a little better or astringent flavor balances it out.
Hmmmm, a drink I would never even consider since I would go straight to the alcohol. Sounds delicious though.
Sorry about being snippy when I arrived at the restaurant today. I was tired, mentally taxed, the wine was warm and I was hungry! A bad combination for me.
houray for adult evenings! I am glad you got out to see the film.
