Weekend Respite

The weekend was a beautiful respite from all the stress that Husband and I have been under all week at our respective places of employment. The weather was beautiful and we had a beautiful balance between having fun and getting things done. We grilled for dinner every night.

Friday night was gorgeous. We made grilled steaks and BBQ chicken and let Miss D stay up until it got dark out so she could play with the fireflies.

Saturday, our neighbors had their kiddie pool out and invited Miss D and I to come over for an hour or so. Then we headed down to Chinatown for a new baby party for one of my coworkers. The food was great. They had crispy fried shrimp with head and shell on. Miss D tried for the first time and amused our tablemates by declaring the eyeballs to be the best part. We then wandered around chinatown square. Miss d chose a Hello Kitty tiara as the one thing we allowed her to buy from the chotchke shop. We all tried the rice candy that Husband was familiar with as a kid. Miss D and I shared a mango bubble tea, which Husband discovered he did not like. And we all marveled at all the live animals we could buy at the grocery store, including eels, sea and box turtles, frogs, and the more pedestrian crabs and lobsters. Miss D spent the evening running through the sprinkler and we grilled hot dogs, burgers and shrimp.

Sunday morning, after a long lazy bout of television, Husband went out to wash the car. I filled our kiddie pool for Miss D and then went to work weeding our vegetable garden. We ate lunch al fresco and then headed to our friends the Kegz's for the afternoon. The menfolk went golfing while S and I lounged in the yard while the kids ran off and played in various areas. They grilled us chicken breasts and burgers on the porch of their newly-painted lovely home and then we packed up Miss D and went home to crash. A good time had by all!

I love bubble tea, but Andrew can't abide it. I don't understand it at all.
