Snow white and the cutest monkey!
(Snow White is our neighbour and babysitter)
Miss D had a fine time trick-or treating for the first time. It didn't take her long to get the lingo down pat- and she was very good about saying "thank you". (In general Miss D has pretty good manners- I make sure to always praise her when she remembers them!)
I was not a city kid, so it was interesting to participate in the early part of the evening which takes place at the stores. From Kimball to Pulaski, Lawrence avenue was swarming with little princesses and sponge bobs with their parents popping in and out of stores. I'm curious- is it like this in every neighbourhood? Even on Lincoln? Also because we live in such a diverse area you come home with a fascinating array of treats. ("Who gave her a salted nut roll?" "The Japanese restaurant" "huh")
Miss D's favorite candy turns out to be lollipops. Perhaps because they take her hours to eat! She had about 4-5 pieces of candy and then ran around the house for a while until it was time for me to fight her into bed. (Good times!)
Mr. Jones came by with a bottle of wine and his fashion sense (worthy of a separate post) as did Mr. & Mrs. H. We ordered pizza, drank and handed out candy until we ran out. We turned out the porch light to indicate we were done but that didn't stop kids from knocking on the window and peeking through the blinds! yeeks- the call of candy sure emboldens the youngsters.

Hung out with MWrigley and watched (somewhat) scary tv. Hadn't seen her since Sunday so it was nice to just hang out.
No trick or treaters in West Town that I saw.
Dracula showed up about 6:30PM, "I vant to drink your blood!" Turns out it was Anne from accross the street. She had been practicing at work all day, and was very good at it. Rest was a bust - about 10 trick or treaters. Now what to do with the rest of the candy!

Glad you guys had such a good time. J, too, was lovin' the idea of a holiday where people give you candy and your parents let you take it! This year was especially fun b/s we went with several of C's friends from school. The kids had a total blast and the streets were just lined with vampires, withces, and Hannah Montanas.
We took Charlie to 5 or 6 houses, but he wanted no part in candy or trick or treating, despite his enthusiasm for practicing it ahead of time. However, he totally loved handing out candy. Everytime the doorbell rang, he raced to the door and pulled out one treat at a time for each kid at the door. Then he'd yell "Happy Halloween" as they walked away.
I'm sure typical child instincts will be more in gear next year (gimme gimme candy).
We got a ton of kids at our place. I'd say 50 or 60 easy.
hrmm... I went to Noordwest and had raviolli and a really nice chilean sav blanc. I remember yesterday it had been halloween on weds.
