Tightening Your Belt

I know Husband already posted this pic on the Facebook but it is too cute not to share with the rest of you. I love her pensive expression as she ponders the mysteries of delicious, delicious frozen custard.

The problem with tightening your belt when you were already living frugally is that the tightening measures feel much more extreme. When people tell me they are cutting out:

- The movie channels on their television package
- Starbucks in the morning
- Buying their lunches
- Going out
- Driving to work

I think, "Oh what i would give to be just cutting those out now!" Because we already don't do any of those things. We cut back on our television package last week on THE VERY DAY OF THE PROJECT RUNWAY FINALE. Which, yes, I missed. On the lowest rung of the TV ladder you get your broadcast stations, a plethora of religious programming and shopping channels and the food network. And fox news. And that's about it. I would consider getting rid of the whole damn thing except at the end of the year then you won't be able to watch anything and lord knows we can't live without TV- can we?

What are you cutting back on?

That's an excellent question.....drinking with my softball buddies?? That's more a function of the season change though.

How about paying for dates? I'll make them all go Dutch. I'm sure THAT will work out well for me.

- Travel
- Business entertainment
- Reviewing all our communications packages
- NO EATING OUT PERIOD
- Not using any credit cards - only paying with cash in the pocket
- Either get rid of some of the insurance or me so it pays out to Mom whichever is easier

We already live so frugally it's like it's 1930. But, being a small business owner, and in an artistic medium, I've gotten accustom to sacrifice. It still sucks that I can't have all the new things I want (iPhone, new car, season fashion, etc.), but I try to keep my coveting in check.

Besides, living like it's 1930 is pretty cool. I ran into Carole Lombard and Clark Gable at '21' last week. :)

going out - I don't get television already, so luckily that is something I've learned to live with.

going to library instead of buying books or music.
