My Sister's Closet Resale

I hope everyone had a delightful Mommies Day Weekend!

I spent much of it in a rather unfruitful search for maternity clothes. (sigh)

I did however find the cutest resale shop in the world which I wanted to tell all my local readers about, My Sister's Closet Resale. It is located in Forest Glen, an area I was not real familiar with and frankly was surprised it is still in city limits. My good friend with a Skokie address lives just a few blocks away. But it is well worth the drive. They do have free parking in the back of the store and there is metered parking on all the streets (collecting even on Sundays!)

The shop is run by very classy older ladies and has a large selection of vintage, gently worn current fashions and even NWT clothes, shoes, bags, jewelry, and even books and other sundry items. They also carry a small maternity section, children's and baby clothes. Clothes are well organized by size and color and they have all sorts of brands from the very high end (Prada!) to Old Navy. Items are priced according to value and wear, one dress I looked at was $68(!) NWT, but I scored two NWT shirts for under $15 apiece. (Less than Target charges for new items and MUCH better quality) There were also plenty of gently-used items for under $5.

The atmosphere is very welcoming. You can tell there are a lot of regular customers as there was a lot of hugging going on and "Oh I put this aside for you!". At the front of the store is a giant vintage-looking glass dispenser filled with lemon water, to refresh you while you shop. And, perhaps special for Mother's Day, in the middle of the shop an attractive spread of cookies and candies to munch on.

Per the salesperson I spoke to, they constantly have sales. (Mother's day weekend was 20% off the whole store + other special deals each day) This place is strictly old school. There is no website, and they don't do email notifications so you have to get on their mailing list if you want to know about them in advance.

I would definitely check it out if you are a bargain hunter that is not about to become a giant bowling ball. I will be going back in about a year or so. ;)

Giant bowling ball. That's funny! I'll pass the info along to the GF. I'm not sure if she's into gently used or not, but she's value oriented.

Good to know! And I love Forest Glen/Sauganash. My dad grew up in that area, and my grandparent's old house is still there, so it sort of holds a special place in my heart. Lisa

One of the best experiences in the world is discovering a new (and terrific) thrift store.
