Boy

Shortly after we got home from the ultrasound, Husband looked at me and said, "Well, looks like your method worked."

In all the many long months of pregnancy that followed, I completely forgot that husband and I had actually made an effort to influence the gender of our unborn baby. So, for those of you following along at home I will tell you what we did.

There is a theory that swimmers carrying the XY are very fast but die sooner and those that carry XX are slower but last longer. So, if you imagine this to be true supposedly you can increase your chances of having a boy by attempting your baby-making activities earlier in your ovulation cycle. Giving the XY's more of a chance to get to the egg first you see. Now if you wanted to be very sure about this i guess you would be taking your temperature and watching your cervical fluid excretions to be sure you knew exactly where you were in your cycle. The only thing I did was count the days from the end of my period. So I wouldn't exactly call our situation scientific proof or anything.

********************************************************************************

Even though we had initially wanted a boy, (As Husband says, "Done!"), in the last couple of weeks leading up to the ultrasound I had sort of fallen in love with the idea of another girl. For one thing, we don't tend to throw a lot of boys on my side. (My generation on my father's side is all girls and on my Mother's side the boys are outnumbered) So I didn't want to get my hopes up too much. Then i found a girl's name i was absolutely in LOVE with. Miss D wanted a girl. (She also wanted to name it Miss D 2) I grew up in a mainly female household. Then I thought about the wonderful relationships I have with my sisters and how nice it would be for Miss D to have one too. So although i am thrilled (and a little nervous) about having a boy, there is a weensy bit of mourning for the little girl I am not having.

Goodbye little Leyli Agnes....

In my opinion, boys rock! No matter what the sex of the baby, you two will be wonderful parents and Miss D will be a delightful big sis. :-)

That was touching Stef! Especially the name. You probably don't know - but it would have been my mother, Agnes' birthday today.

It's called the Shettles Method. And I guess if you want a girl you aim for 2-3 days prior to ovulation, because the females will wait around and the males will all die off. Crazy stuff! Didn't work for me! Congrats - and I understand about the boy, I felt the same before having Jonas. It's been so different, but don't worry - it'll be great! Lisa

As a girl who has a brother, let me tell you that it's a pretty good deal. I'm sure we don't talk about the same things that sisters would, but we are very close, talk often, and love hanging out with each other even though we have no hobbies in common.

In any case, congratulations to you all again.

I think just preventing a child who would be stuck with Agnes for a middle name means that having a boy is a great thing!! It'll be fine. We're much less work in the teenage years.

Well I suspect you will be very, very happy with this out come. And it will be nice for Hubs to have someone to do male things with.

I suppose you could call him Mr. D to appease the Dukes :)

Congrats again, we are both really happy for you guys!!
Tell Y, she can talk with J and learn how to still force younger brothers to play with my little pony's and play dress up (with princess clothes nonetheless)!!

I'm just glad A will have a playmate of his own gender. I always felt Shawn must have suffered as a child with all us girls around! ;)
