It's kind of insane that I had neither heard of this or thought to do it myself before. I am somewhat of a popcorn fiend. It is one of my favoritest snacks in the whole world. I pretty much enjoy it no matter how it's prepared. Air popped, on the stove, in a microwave bag laden with buttery-flavored chemicals....When I worked in an office I made microwave popcorn all the time. At home my default method is on the stovetop, served with lots of salt and sometimes butter if I'm feeling like indulging.
So an FB friend posted this Alton Brown "recipe" and i had to try it immediately.
Ingredients
* 1/4 cup good quality popcorn
* 2 teaspoons olive oil
* 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt or popcorn salt
* Sprinkle jalapeno seasoning mix
* Paper lunch bag
* Stapler
Directions
Toss the popcorn with the olive oil, salt, and jalapeno seasoning mix in the paper bag. Fold the top of the bag over and staple the bag twice to close. Place the bag in the microwave and microwave on high for 2 minutes to 3 minutes, or until there are about 5 seconds between pops.
I use tape to fasten the bag. It is a bit greasy in the microwave after- but still better than cleaning a pot! The popcorn is absolutely light and fluffy. I think that popcorn salt would probably work better than the kosher- I usually end up adding more salt after.
Dee-licious!

Hmm, I've done this before, using just a bag and popcorn, but I never thought to add oil. I might have to try that and see if it is very different. (We just add butter at the end.)
Can you tell me what popcorn salt is?
popcorn salt is a superfine ground salt. (usually what they have at the movie theater)
oooo - I am definitely trying this. Just need to locate paper bags in this country

Although I think this is a cool idea, I am far too lazy for this. Pretty sad, huh? Lisa
Wait, STAPLE the bag and put it in the microwave?? Staples in the microwave?? That's not good. Won't it be like an August lightning storm in Iowa in there??
