All of a sudden last week Miss D decided that she didn't want to take baths anymore- she wants to take showers.
If this turns out to not be a passing phase i will probably need to invest in a shower cap for her, especially as the weather is getting cold!
My question is this: at what age is it appropriate to let a child take a shower unsupervised? As of now, we are letting her stay in there by herself as long as the door is open so we can hear if she falls down or something. But the bathroom does get really cold in the winter and she would prefer to shut the bathroom door. (Probably because that's what Husband and I do)
So am I being overprotective or reasonable here?

Hmmm, I can't remember what age C started taking showers at, but I'm pretty sure it was much later, 6 or 7 maybe? I was allowing J to take showers with C, but the staples incident stemmed from falling in the shower. I don't know if that helps!
ooo, I only remember taking showers with mom when we were little. No memories of when I started to take them all alone.
Interesting. I don't think I showered until.....geesh.....5th grade or something?? Boy, I don't even know.
One of our parenting guidelines was if a child asked to do something, they probably were ready do it. I would say "no locked door" and be within hearing distance. They do grow up fast, don't they?
Not a clue.
I agree with Bernice's advise. Y is very mature for her age. I think 1 in the shower is safer than 2 - especially if they are siblings - to easy to start shoving. Just keep an ear peeled and check in once in a while.
