No Olympics for Chicago!
And first one out so...double ouch.
I have to say i was pretty ambivalent about the whole thing- although I suspected that taxpayers would end up holding the bag at the end.
So I guess it's a good thing.

We can now visit Brazil. You are probably right about who will end up paying for the costs.
I believe both of the last Olympics in the US ended up making money. From a personal perspective, this is bad as it has a direct impact on Dan's company. Also, I'm just bitter. We only got 18 votes? I feel like we are owed an explanation. Also, August is winter in Rio (sure, it's 80 degrees in winter there, but it's still WINTER!). Lisa
Oh no! I didn't realize Dan had a vested interest in the bid. I'm so sorry to hear it. Only 18 votes? that's pretty shocking.
Actually the last olympics to make money was in 1984 in L.A. The rest hide debt under bond issuances to pay for the construction and infrastructure. You get new buildings and roads, but you have to pay for them.
