Ground Cherry

Just came back from a day off and found out that I will be in meetings from 10AM-2PM today so this will be a short one. The vegetable garden is going gangbusters so far. Lots of flowering but the only thing fruiting so far is this ground cherry. Per the place where we purchased it, a ground cherry is like a sweet, red tomatillo. (In other words, a tomato with skin?) I'm curious as to what they will taste like. Has anyone tried one before?

My grandparents grew them by the bushel. Back in those days they canned them with a sugar syrup for a fruit sauce. I remember just shucking them and eating raw. They are a nice tasting fruit.

Hey Aunt B- do you know how big they are supposed to get?

I've only tried "tomacco" the nuclear waste cross between tomatoes and tobacco. Good stuff, but addictive.
