Making Cookies

I have a thing about making cookies. Specifically, chocolate chip cookies. I rarely have sweets in my house, to avoid temptation, but I almost always have a costco-sized bag of chocolate chips and everything I might need to make cookies at the drop of a hat. Cake or pie or any other baked good just doesn't hold the allure and when I consider making another kind of cookie like butter or peanut butter or chocolate I inevitibly come to the conclusion that chocolate chip is so easy and frankly- it's just what I want.

I love every kind of chocolate chip cookie, giant, teeny, soft, chewy, crisp, with nuts, without etc. So I am always experimenting with new recipes. Baking is always so amazing to me how you can take different amounts of the same ingredients and end up with a completely different end product. (breads probably being the most dramatic example of that) Now Miss D is old enough to bake with me- although she takes a slightly more unorthodox approach...

Take her "whisking" for example...

My child likes to eat flour. I told her I was taking these pictures to show her what a strange little girl she was when she's older.

Ever since she made cookies with Grandma Glo it is nearly impossible for me to keep her fingers out of the batter at any given time in the process. Just like my Mom did for me I have to make her hold out until we're done so she can lick the beater.

Cookies! This giant monsters were a Martha Stewart recipe, 18 minutes is way too long. These were delightfuly crispy on the outside and chewy in the middle on the first day but were pretty hard by the second. I would try baking them for half the time and then checking them every couple of minutes or so. It sure does make a lot though!

Hard cookies are best enjoyed with a glass of milk.

Awesome. I love cookies. What is it about chocolate chip cookies? I'm not a big chocolate fan, but I could eat them all day. D looks cute with all that batter!!

Miss D is a pastry chef in the making! And what's not to love about flour! I couldn't keep my hands out of the stuff when I was a kid. I used to love to dig my hands deep into the big flour canister my mom kept in the kitchen. The sensation - smooth and slightly cold - was always fascinating to me.

Cookie batter is so good, I don't know why we even bother baking it.

Mmmmm...cookies. Cookies (especially chocolate chip) are the only kind of sweets that Charlie will eat. I need to make them more!

Adorable pictures! She's a trip, and those pictures will DEFINITELY be useful in the future. Remember when we used to bake with Grandma? I remember pies and cream puffs most clearly, and also donuts, though that's not really "baking"...

Sometimes I am so task oriented that I do not enjoy the experience like Miss D is. Lesson learned for me. Great pictures
