Pom poms

It's funny, I never think of myself as a "crafty" person. Craft projects are not something I tend to do on my own in my spare time. But somehow I end up doing a lot of them with my daughter. i think this is partly because it was something my mother did with me and my sisters when we were growing up, and partly for something cheap and new for us to do together.

Miss D is getting to the age where television commercials are starting to work their magic on her and she has been asking for a product heavily advertised on the kids networks called Benderoos. Husband suggested that we could buy pipe cleaners for a lot less so when Miss D and I had the day off on July 3rd we headed out to the craft store. We went up and down the aisles looking at all the different types of materials and boxed craft kits available. We found the pipe cleaners eventually, but she saw the jumbo sized bag of multi-colored and multi-sized pom poms and fell in love. I remembered we had lots of googly eyes and other hoo ha at home (we have lots of supplies left over from our puppet days) and quickly thought up an easy project we could do together. Pom Pom animals!

The pic is kind of terrible, but they are supposed to be bears and caterpillars. Bet you can't tell which one I made and which one Miss D made! It was super easy for her to glue the pom poms together, with only a few minutes of frustration when they fell apart on occasion. My favorite part was her creative add ons. As we were finishing up our caterpillars she found a smaller pom pom that she stuck on the end. "And do you know what this is Mom? It's his fart" (hilarious laughter)

Needless to the say the "farterpillar" as it came to be known was a big hit at school.

Nice! Already being impacted by television and being influenced into Simpsonesque activity ("fart"). Very fun.

I also said no to the benderoos because they are $20 and nothing that my kids make with them would come out looking like the stuff on the commercials. Ella and Jonas like the farterpillar. Lisa
